Why it matters:
Every trip in Choctaw County starts on a county road: the school bus route, the drive to work, the log truck headed to the mill, the ambulance on its way to a neighbor. Our road crews work hard with what they have, but today’s budget leaves only about $1.18 million a year for major projects.
That’s enough to replace one bridge or resurface about four miles of road.
This investment in our community changes that.
For five years, a dedicated tax of no more than five mills would put about $9.5 million to work on the specific projects in the county’s published Road and Bridge Plan.
The work would be done up front, while it costs less, so we can all see the results.

ROAD AND BRIDGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Do you favor or oppose Choctaw County levying an additional ad valorem tax of up to five (5) mills, beginning October 1, 2027, for no more than five (5) years, with all proceeds used solely for the projects in the Road and Bridge Plan, as advertised, to improve safety for the traveling public and promote economic development for industry and businesses, and authorizing the Commission to finance such projects through county warrants payable from those tax revenues? (ACT 2026-546)
